Congratulations to the Hawks, two back to back state champs. The boys played the best game of the season today against a tough Charger team. What a ball game 9-8 in regulation, the Hawks were up 8-5 at the end of three but as usual the Chargers were not ready to give up, eventually tying the game with 1:39 left on the clock. The final goal was scored by Carson Song, our leading scorer, with :36 seconds left on the clock. PDS gained possession on the final face off but the defense stepped up to play it out and Emerson Schaeffer made a final save to complete the win.

We won face-offs and groundballs which are two keys to the game. Congratulations to the boys on an outstanding game and season. Tonight’s game with the PDS Chargers met all of the expectations of being a matchup of the top two private schools. The Hawks jumped out to a three goal lead but that didn’t deter the Chargers from fighting back as they scored the next two goals to finish the first quarter 3-2. Both teams exchanged goals in the second, while the Hawks had two goals to the Chargers one in the third. Leading 6-4 to begin the fourth quarter, the Hawks continued solid play at both ends but the Chargers turned up their play. The Hawks only scored one goal in the fourth while the Chargers mounted a comeback to tie the game with only 2 seconds remaining. With the game on the line in sudden, both teams exchanged possessions throughout the first overtime but neither team could get a goal. We led 4-2 at the end of the first. The second quarter only had one lLatin goal scored and the Hawks went to the locker room up 5-2. the Ravens still had fight, scoring the first goal of the third but the Hawks answered with one. Well it was a disappointing final game for the Hawks today. We had a good game plan, the boys played the tails off and nobody gave up on any play. The coaches could not have asked the boys to play any harder. They all left it on the field. We were down 4-3 at the half, playing with great intensity but CCDs got the first goal of the third quarter. The Hawks scored another to make it 5-4 in the fourth on a great play by Grant Hurd. CCDs scored their sixth goal at seven minutes remaining to give them the lead by two. We had to pressure down the stretch with hopes of winning the ball back but, with our goalie out, CCDS was able to score on an open net to finish the game 7-4. A disappointing loss for the team but it was a great season. The friendships on this team were stronger than any we have had. These guys were a pleasure to coach! Just wish we could have gotten this one.

The Hawks scored 10 goals on some very pretty ball movement, taking a 10-1 lead into the half. The second half offered everyone a great chance to gain good playoff experience. We will need a solid game on Thursday evening against the Bucs for a chance to play in the final on Saturday. Hope you will come out for the game and cheer on the Hawks.

A big win for the Hawks over the Chargers. The game was certainly a back and forth struggle throughout. We battled to a 3-3 tie at the end of one and 5-5 at halftime. The second half was more of the same as both teams had opportunities but neither team could beat the solid defending at both ends. PDS took a 6-5 lead early in the quarter but the Hawks goalie, Branner Getz (21 saves) shut the door for the remainder of the game, stopping several quality shots. At the same time our offense was able to put two by the Charger keeper. It was great to see players step up tonight; our big scorers were held at bay. Hopefully the boys will gain confidence going into playoffs with this solid win over a good Charger team.

Cannon continued to hustle and work hard but Latin controlled the GB's taking a 14-6 lead after three. The final quarter gave some fresh players a good run and they had some great opportunities to score as they added to our advantage, finishing with a score or 18-8. The score was 0-0 for 11 minutes and 32 seconds with some good back and forth action. The Hawks had some good shots but the Furries goaltender was up to the challenge. As the first quarter ended and the second began, we started to take control offensively; we had solid shots and long possessions resulting in five first half goals. Defensively, we were good in the back but our d-middies had the challenge of several strong offensive players. The halftime score was 5-0. The second half was more of the same offensively; solid possessions and good defending although one Furrie midfielder scored four unassisted goals. The second half started strong for Latin, we scored three goals to CCDS one but as the quarter came to an end, CCDS scored two quick ones to tie things up again at 7-7. In the final quarter Latin things were still even at 9-9 but the Hawk defense struggled to clear the ball down the stretch and CCDS capitalized on our errors, scoring six goals in the final stanza to three for the Hawks. The team had a successful trip up to the mountains in a tough match with the Greenies. The wind was blowing hard throughout the game making play in one direction a challenge for both teams. CS took a 1-0 lead but the Hawks came back with four unanswered goals from our inproving offense. As the game progressed, the Hawks were able to take control and a solid lead of 12-5 going into the 4th quarter but, as usual, CS would not give up and fought to the last whistle. Sbo Dube had three great saves in the final minutes as he came off the bench to finish out the game. This game was a battle, as usual, the Greenies are always looking for a big win over a Charlotte School. The Hawks weren't going to be a win for the Greenies, they will have to hope to beat PDS or CCDS.

Our game with Providence HS was one the fans certainly found entertaining but one that frustrated the defensive coaches for both teams. In a 48 minute game, 40 goals were scored. The game was a back and forth battle for the offenses but in the end PHS came through with more face-off wins and consequently more possessions. Latin played hard throughout the game and closed the game to two goals but ran out of time.

Our second game of the Legacy Cup was the true challenge. Lovett School, the top Atlanta school that draws strong players from the region, had only one game that day and came our fresh. Our boys had played a good Aphaaretta team and prepared for round two. Tayler Sipperly took the opening face-off down the middle for the first goal only 8 seconds into the game. Andy Metzger followed that up with a great shot put us up 2-1 but slowly Lovett to the wind out of us and led 10 - 7 at halftime. Our biggest challenge was the frustration of being tired, we couldn't keep up with the fresher Lovett team. First I must congratulate the 2008 Boy Lacrosse Team on an outstanding season. We finished with the most wins the team has had during my four years. As coaches we were figuring to win about 13 if things went well. Today we played in the State Championship with 16 wins under our belts. I could not be more proud of a group of young men than I am of these boys. Today was a tough loss. Anytime you are able to make the finals of the State Tournament, you come in with one thing in mind, that is to win. Today's loss was disappointing for all of us. Remembering that we were in it, is the key; nobody else was, they were all in the stands. Every guy on our team gave their all today, we could not have asked for more. The captains led the way and the team was with them to the end. This group of guys played for each other this year; there were not seniors, juniors, sophomores or freshmen, they were the Hawks Lacrosse Team and proud of it. Their effort each day made this season very special for all of us. Be proud, hold your heads high and always remember what we were able to accomplish when we worked TOGETHER. Congratulations on a great season! Coach Sip Final Score 19-7

As we came into the 4th quarter we were up 11-8 but things were tightening up. We continued to play with confidence but PD kept pounding. They tied things up at the end, taking us to sudden death overtime. Andrew Tanneberger won the draw and the Hawk's took a timeout. We set up a quick play; pass, pick opposite Tanneberger got the pass from Metzger, Metz set the pick and there was Sipperly on the cut and he hit the net. Coming out flat was exactly what the Hawks did this afternoon. If you watched the first half you'd be sure we had lost the game. My hope was that the team would sort things out; begin to understand that they need to play as a team and never give up until the last whistle. Today's game highlighted the attack; the trio rode hard and got the ball on the ground, we won the ground balls in the offensive end, and the result was a goal. Max Hagler, David Pearson and Eric Sipperly finished with 10 of the team's 11 goals. It was great to see such a strong team performance.
