Game three was an ofensive explosion from both teams. With more than 20 runs scored and 20 some hits the Knights looked for a sweep and the Hawks just looked for revenge. With Hunter Matthews on the mound and another errorless defense behind him the Hawks were not going to let this one get away. The boys of Latin scored 12 runs and did not let Christian have the lead once. On the mound Mathews was throwing heat, and at the plate he he was even hotter. Latin 2 Hickory Grove 11
Latin played great baseball for six innings yesterday only to allow 9 runs in the seventh to lose to Hickory Grove 11-2. The Hawks received an awesome pitching performance from Hunter Matthews. He allowed 2 runs through 5 innings. We played good defense and hit well through 6 innings however, our youth was demonstrated in the seventh by allowing 9 runs. On tthe offensive side, we scored the tieing run in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Randall Masters scoring Hunter Matthews. Leading Hitters were, Hunter Matthews 2-3 with a double and two runs scored, Ryan Mathews 1-3 with a double, Blake Hankins 1-2 with a double, Scotty Thompson 1-3 (he also came in to pitch in the sixth and held the Lions scoreless), Randall Masters 1-3. This was an outstanding effort, one in which we can build. We played agood baseball team and had a golden opportunity to knock them off. We are proud of the boys and expect to continue to improve.

The Hawks gave a great effort today verses a good Providence Day team in the third game of a three game series. The Chargers jump out to a 5-0 lead after thre and a half innings and the Hawks came back to make the score 6-5 through 6 innings. However, PD scores four runs in the sixth and seventh and put the game away 10-6. Latin played well defensively, making one error. Kyle Derham,Rob Reid and Ryan Matthews pitched well tody but just ran out of steam. The Hawks had a good day at the plate scoring 6 runs on nine hits. In addition Latin left 6 runners in scoring position which hurts when one is playing a team as good as PD. Nine different Hawks had one hit. Jon Gabbard had a double and Randall Masters, Hunter Matthews, Ryan Matthews, Kyle Derham, Sam Teden, Greg Fornshell, Drew Hubbard, and Reid Hubbard contributed singles for the Hawks. Latin falls short in upset bid of Wesleyan Christian Academy 8-1. The inexperienced Hawks battled Wesleyan for 5 innings and simply ran out of gas falling 8-1. The score after 4 and 1/2 was 2-1. Freshman Hunter Matthews threw an outstanding game. He kept the Wesleyan hitters off balance mixing up his pitches and hitting his spots for 4 innings. The Hawks also had a great performance from Kyle Derahm behind the plate. Kyle threw out three runners attempting to steal and caught an outstanding game. However, Wesleyan began to hitt the ball in the 5th and 6th scoring 6 runs and defeated the Hawks. We had our chances. We left the bases loaded twice and runners on second and third three times and were unable to get the key hit. We had several players achieve good days at the plate. Drew Hubbard was 3-4 with 3 stolen bases. Ryan Matthews was 2 for 2. Finally, Randall Masters was 1 for 3.
