A hard fought game against the Chargers of Providence Day got the Hawks back in the win column after a two game slide. Physical play around the hoop and foul shooting were the two keys for the boys to secure the victory. Up next is Charlotte Prep on Tuesday. Overall Record: 9 - 4

Holy Trinity was looking for a little payback in the second game of a two game series, and unfortunately they got it. The Hawks played a great game, executing on the offensive and defensive side of the floor, but a few calls and a determined Holy Trinity team handed the boys their second consecutive loss. The Hawks hope to end their two game skid next week against Providence Day.

The Bucs of Country Day had the Hawks' number for the second time this season as they took another one from Latin. It was a back and forth game all night long, until the fourth when the Hawks went cold on the offensive side. Next up is Holy Trinity. Overall Record: 8 - 3

The Hawks opened the game with a 13 - 4 lead and at one point in the first half had a lead of 23 - 7. But the Cougars were not going down easily. By halftime the Hawks found their double lead gone and Cannon had the momentum and were looking to build on it. Going into the fourth the Hawks had a 35 - 31 lead and when the final three pointer was taken by the Cougars it fell just short and would not fall, giving Latin the two point victory. Next up are the Bucs of Country Day at home on Tuesday. Overall Record: 8 - 2

The boys came away with a great team victory on Saturday. Covenant Day was not going to go down easily and it took 10 of the 15 boys on Latin to score and bring the victory home. Overall Record: 6 - 2. Next up is Charlotte Christian at home on Tuesday.

Latin 54 Trinity Episcopal 58
Despite the loss the Hawks played one of their best halves this season. Latin started the game very slow, to find themselves down by 20 heading into halftime. In that seven minute break the boys "flipped a switch" and came out firing on all cylinders to cut the deficit in the third quarter. The fourth quarter was much of the same, but the clock was against them. When the final buzzer sounded the the Hawks found themselves 4 points shy of an amazing comeback. They will now head into the break with an overall record of 5 - 2. Next up is Covenant Day on January 5th.

Despite digging themselves a deep hole in the first quarter the Hawks were able to pull things together and get the win. Foul trouble and missed shots were not in the game plan for the boys, but their perseverance prevailed in the end. Next up is Trinity Episcopal on Thursday. Overall Record: 5 - 1

Behind the hot hands of JP Smith and Will Troutman the Hawks pulled out a close one. It was a tough, see-saw battle all four quarters with both teams taking the lead a handle-full of times. In the end though it was the Hawks clock management and foul shooting that kept the lead and awarded them the victory. Next up are the Chargers of Providence Day.

The 7th grade boys faced a tough Bucs team tonight and unfortunately could not handle their pressure. Latin was handed their first loss and now look get back to work in preparation for Holy Trinity on Monday. Overall record is 3 - 1.

The MS Hawks came off the Thanksgiving weekend ready to play. Despite a slow first quarter start the boys did not stop shooting and running the floor. Will Troutman's 18 points led the way as the 7th grade boys went on to the victory. They will take their 3 game win streak to Country Day on Thursday.

The 7th grade boys made the trip over to Charlotte Christian hoping to open the season with a win. It did not look good in the first half as Latin trailed the entire time and went in to the locker room down 6 and only scoring 10 points. The second half however, was a different story. The boys went on a 30 to 13 run over the course of the third and fourth quarters taking them to a record of 1 - 0.

After an exciting game on Tuesday, the boys did not want their last game of the season to be anything less than exciting. At half-time it was all knotted up at 21 and then at the end of the 4th it was all knotted up once again. As the Hawks came into overtime they were ready and pumped up. From the jump ball it was on! The boys came out with full court pressure and took over from the very beginning. The offensive and defensive execution in those 3 minutes of overtime were the best of the season and led to a memorable finish to the season. After losing the first 2 games to start the season, the 7th grade Hawks finished on a 10 - 1 run. Scorers tonight included: Farr 12, Jones 10, Jones 7, Fuller 5, Elliott 4, Baynard 3, Gardner 2, Griffin 2. Final record: 10 - 3.

Another barn burner for the 7th grade Hawks last night in the Belk! Game on from tip off, with both teams playing aggressively and not giving an inch either way. With everyone getting into the action and contributing to the victory, the boys came away with a hard earned win, and a series split at one a piece. The Hawks got back on the right track tonight against the Bucs of Country Day. It was a tough battle from the tip off and a 1 point game going into half-time. Coming out of half-time was a different story for the boys. The Hawks' 14 point scoring run and shutdown defense got them the lead, and on to the win. WOW! Another hard fought game from both teams. It was a seesaw in scoring from one quarter to the next, all leading to the start of the fourth in tie at 39. The Hawks came out firing behind the hot hand of Jackson Farr. With everyone making an impact on the outcome of tonight's game, the boys battled with everything they had until that final buzzer. In what had to be the most intense game of the season for the Hawks, they came away victorious. Right from the tip it was a battle. The score was back and forth all game, but with a outstanding team effort and a strong defensive stand in the closing seconds the boys took their overall record to 5 - 2. The boys came off the long holiday break ready to play. Everyone was involved early and often. With a good Cannon team coming to Latin, the boys fell behind early. The young hawks did a great job of keeping their composure and battling back to take a lead without looking back. Short three players due to illness, the young Hawks faced their toughest and tallest opponent on the year in Charlotte Prep. Their undefeated record was well deserved as the 7th graders could not get on track offensively. Although playing hard on defense, the team could not get a good run going at any time. Caleb Jordan broke double digits with 10 points to lead the Hawks. The 7th graders ended their season with a 9 -5 record.

The 7th grade team just could not get a run going while Holy Trinity was able to fastbreak or beat the pressure for too many lay-ups. Hunter Sheridan led the scoring with 16 while Caleb Jordan and Parker Julian contributed nine each. The Hawks conclude their season with a final home game against Charlotte Prep.

Down by thirteen points early in the fourth quarter, the young Hawks put on a display of aggressive defense and hot shooting to pull out a win at home. Parker Julian had a break out game with 21 points and was aided by Hunter Sheridan with 14 points and Caleb Jordan's seven. Sean Bonner, Ben Scott, and Brady Whitmore provided some much needed defense and rebounding throughout the game. The team's record stands at 9 -2 going into the final three games of the season.

The 7th grade team ran their record to 7wins and 2 losses with a hard fought victory over CCS. Although up by double digits at half, a run by Christian in the third quarter made it a close game. A trio of baskets by Parker Julian in the latter part of the third quarter provided some breathing room for the young Hawks. Hunter Sheridan provided a lot of offensive punch and rebounds underneath and Caleb Jordan added some spark from the outside as well as running the offense. All players saw action and gained experience playing as a team.

Coming off a tough loss to Holy Trinity in the first game of the new year, the houng Hawks rebounded with a 48 - 33 victory over Trinity Episcopal. All 14 players (Thompson Brock is on the injured list with tendonitis) saw lots of action with 9 players contributing points. Reilly Suhr and parker Julian led the way with 8 apiece followed by Brady Whitmore, Hunter Sheridan and Caleb Jordan with 6 each. The next game is Tuesday (1/11) at home against Providence Day.

The young Hawks completed 2010 with an impressive win over the Bucs. The intensity shown from the opening tap led to an 18 point halftime which was maintained throughout the second half. A close game until the final minute or two as both teams struggled to find some offensive consistency, the 7th grade pulled out a good win away from their home court. Hunter Sheridan led the way in rebounds and points (19). However, some fourth quarter baskets by Ben Scott and Brady Whitmore, a three-pointer by Louis Lambert and two foul shots by Parker Julian helped sealed the victory. All 15 players saw action and hopefully took home some lessons on what it takes to win close games on the road.

The young Hawks played a full game of pressure defense and solid job of rebounding especially on the defensive end of the court. Thompson Brock and Louis Lambert started for the first time and played well and under control which helped the team play a bigger line-up against some tall opponents. Caleb Jordan ran the offense and ended up with 22 points. Ben Scott hit the boards hard along with Hunter Sheridan who scored 17 points in tight with either hand. Nicholas Bolger, Hayden Smith, Raley Orndorff, Jackson Vandiver, Sean Bonner, and Parker Julian added great spark and valuable minutes off the bench culminating in a great team victory.

The 7th grade team ended their season with one of their top performances of the season. Controlling the tempo of the game with changing pressure defenses the Hawks kept the Bucs from getting any rhythm going and stopped their opponents deadly three point shooting. Eleven players scored as the team was led by Daniel Jones with 11 and Carson Song with 9. The team record ended up with 8 wins and 6 losses.

A close game all the way with several lead changes the Hawks came out on top due to a more aggresive second half defense and controlling the boards especially offensively. Down ten points in the third quarter (20 - 30) the Hawks went on a 23 to 6 scoring streak over the next several minutes of play with good defensive hustle and consistent rebounding. In the fourth quarter they allowed their opponent only three point from the foul line while scoring 22 with a mixture of inside power and outside accuracy. Jackson Monnin posted 11 points followed by Anthony Bilas with 12. Seven other players contributed to the scoring.

The Hawks did not stop the offensive power of the Chargers nor got our pressure defense working for turnovers, thus we sustained the second loss of the season to PD. Michael Gabbard played long and hard on both sides of the floor due to foul with our other big men. He finished with a season high 10 points.

The Hawks played probably their best game of the season as far as intelligence and execution was concerned. A strong pressing defense, aggresive rebounding against a taller opponent, and good shot selection proved to be a winning combination. Three steals by Carson Song in the third quarter turned the tide in favor of the young Hawks. Anthony Bilas led the scoring with 4 three point baskets and Jackson Monnin backed him up with 10 points.

Lots of good shots that did not go in put the young Hawks behind by 9 at halftime. A more aggressive press and finding the range in the second half got the team back in the game within three points several times in the fourth quarter. However, PD made the free throws in the waning moments and the Hawks came up short in a well fought game. Next game is Friday at home against Trinity Episcopal.

A close game broke open in the second half due to some strong rebounding, pressure defense, and hot shooting by the young Hawks. The team outscored their opponents 17 to 2 in the fourth quarter to widen what had been a two point half time lead. Ten players scored led by Anthony Bilas' 14. The front court trio of Jackson Monnin, Denzel Pearson, and Carson Song kept the taller Covenant Day team off the boards throughout the game. The 7th graders return to Belk Gym on Tuesday, December 1 to face Providence Day.

The Hawks had a tough time responding to a trapping zone defense in their opening game of the season. Although at size disadvantage, the Hawks scrapped through the whole game as all 15 players saw action. The seventh graders have their first home game on Tuesday, Nov. 24 against Covenant Day.

This overtime game was a highlight of the season and a great way to finish up the schedule. Down by 12 points (40 - 28) going into the fourth quarter, the team put on a defensive and rebounding display that stifled PD's inside game while scoring 14 points to tie the game. In the overtime the team held their opponent scoreless to win the game by 8 points. Joe Baynard and Rusty Reigel had their best offensive show of the year by scoring 23 and 16 points respectively, and Mason LeDonne, Carter Sheridan, and Davis Hanson controlled the boards on both ends of the court during the comeback. The team ended the season with an 8 - 4 record.

The team gave the coaches and fans an early Christmas present with their best performance to date. Agressive rebounding and improved outside shooting were the hallmarks of the game. Four players produced 8 three-point baskets and all of the front court players hit the backboards preventing easy second and third chances by Christian. Joe Baynard led with 16 points followed by Mason LeDonne with 13. Justin Boyles added 7 and Rusty Reigel had two treys for 6 points. the team takes a break until January 6.

Strong performances by Joe Baynard and Mason LeDonne led to the team's second win of the season. LeDonne tallied 15 points while baynard chipped in 12. Carter Sheridan and Davis Hanson contributed 4 points apiece in the win. Strong rebounding by all of the post men proved to be a deciding factor in the game.
The next game is Thursday, Dec. 18 against Charlotte Christian and will be the last one until January.

The 7th Grade team rebounded after several close defeats over the past four games to record a resounding victory. All players saw plenty of action with 10 individuals enering the scoring column. After three quarters of futility shooting from the field as well as the foul line, continued aggressive defense and rebounding paid off for the 7th Graders with a last second one point victory at Holy Trinity. Down by nine points (24 - 15) entering the fourth quarter, the Hawks' pressing defense and the timely return of their shooting touch (along with the luck of a technical foul for having 6 men on the floor) resulted in an most exciting finish. Jon Gilmartin, Carson Clough, and Nori Hill provided defensive pressure as Chase Cisne and Brian Mittl cleared the boards thus allowing only one shot for Holy Trinity. Grayson Foster provided the offensive punch with 13 points followed by Mittl and Cisne with 6 each and Gilmartin with four.

They then held on to the lead for most of the second half, but the game was not decided until Chase Cisne score on a breakaway lay-up with seconds remaining. Grayson Foster led all scoring with 16 followed by Brian Mittl with 11 and Cisne with 10. Fitz Ellerbe and Nori Hill came off the bench and provided some scoring punch with 5 points each.

The young Hawks rolled up a decisive first victory due to a strong defensive effort in their three-quarter court press. All team members played with nine players scoring. High scorer was Grayson Foster with 21 followed by Chase Cisne with 6 and the quartet of Carso Clough, Matt Tome, Brian Mittl, and Jon Gilmartin with 4 each.

Latin 26 Providence Day 32
The 7th Grade Boys got off to a great start in the first half with all 15 players seeing action and contributing to a one point advantage at halftime. However, their shooting touch went cold in the second half resultong in the 6 point deficit in the first game of the season. Brian Mittl led the scoring with 10 points followed by Grayson Foster with 4.
The next game is Tuesday, November 28th at home against United Faith.

All players saw action in this loss to Trinity Episcopal. Ten players scored with Trey Burdick leading the way with 7 points. The next game is Friday (12/9) against a strong Providence Day squad.

The seventh grade team had a hard time finding the hole in this consolation game of the Tip-Off tournament. Defensively the team play a great game as they progress in learning how to play team oriented man-to-man.

Lack of height proved most troublesome for the young Hawks as they dropped the opening round in the Tip-Off Tournament to the Bucs. The team plays Holy Trinity today at 4:00 in the consolations.
